Thanks so much for this olive oil info...I wonder if you have a opinion on Portuguese olive oil. I've been to the Alentejo and seen the olive groves and have purchased olive oil from there . I see it in glass and metal containers..all protected from light etc...

Hi Chris. I've never had Portuguese olive oil but I've had really good Portuguese wine haha. And I will definitely be on the look out for some. What brand? I bet it's great. The climate is similar to Spain. There are some countries that have amazing olive oil but don't export a ton. I mention Italy, Spain, Greece and California because the market in the US focuses mostly on those. For example, I've had really good olive oil in Croatia but have never found it sold here.

Yes, I'm sure you are right about that...I only see Portuguese olive oil in stores that cater to Portuguese people. Right now I'm using Oliveira Alentejana. There is a wonderful market in Fall River,Ma that sells all things Portuguese...if you ever go there. It's call Portulgalia Market place...wonderful sardines, tuna, anchovies ,wine vinegars etc... worth the trip.
